On violence.
Generally I support diversity of tactics.
But not this time.
Our children and Elders are on the lines with us. Anyone who puts them in harm’s way with violent actions are not welcome in this movement, in my opinion.
No matter how peaceable protesters remain… police rarely feel a similar obligation. They withhold violence at their pleasure, and unleash it when they’re done tolerating you.
Consciously selecting tactics is one thing, but don’t lose sight of the fact that movements are never neat, orderly, nor safe and that if you want to protect people you need to be ready to defend against police overreach as it happens.
I’m not saying anything other than hopefully some of you know about Maalox and how to bust a kettle, because that kind of knowledge is what you’ll need to keep children and Elders safe while they participate.
I respect and admire what Idle No More is doing and wish the movement well.
